Elizabeth(Betty) Cassady Shackle, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2019, with family at her side while holding her son Tom’s hand.
Born in Thief River Falls to Claude and Edythe Cassady on February 12,1924. Preceded in death by parents; husband, Richard; son, Richard; brothers, Thomas and Melford Cassady and sister, Mercedes Cassady. Survived by son, Thomas (Mary); daughter–in-law, Chris; 6 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Betty graduated from St. Margaret’s Academy in 1941, went to business school in 1942 and married Bud, the love of her life in 1943. After Bud’s early death, at 44 years of age Betty needed to learn to drive and return to work in order to support herself and Tom. As a trailblazer for working women she went on to a 25 plus year career attaining executive status at the Dayton Hudson/Target Corporation Credit Union.
Her many attributes express the woman she was and had to be. Betty was a woman of strong faith, grounded in family, stoic and strong in her convictions. She was quick to smile, laugh and cherished being a wife, mother and grandmother. She was loyal and dedicated in her many interests with family, volunteering and close friends.
As a baker at heart, she will always be remembered for her chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin and peanut butter cookies. A true kid at heart, she loved her sweets, especially those jelly beans. At 5 foot 4 she was short in stature but tall in her many lifelong accomplishments.
As the adopted Grandma of the Geib family (Mary) she loved all the holidays, special celebrations and family gatherings. Her dear friend Lois Geib always had Betty join in on all the Geib Tribe family rituals, something she always talked about and was proud to be a part of for over 40 years.
Many, many thanks for her last year of life that was given with loving care and compassion by the special caregivers Sue, Angela, LuAnn and all the other staff at LuAnn’s Place. To her it was like having a little heaven on earth for her and our family.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to LuAnn’s Place for the 6 other special women residents that share the smiles, love and hugs on a daily basis.
Her last words before a nap and always to Tom were “I love you” she truly felt that faith and love were meant for all. We are going to miss her smile.
