Elizabeth G. English

Elizabeth G. (Olson) English
Fondly known as “Nana” (also known as Aunt Bette and Liz)
Born in 1925 in Thief River Falls, to Norma and Clarence Olson, she grew up and graduated high school in Robbinsdale, MN. She and her ex-husband, Chuck English, lived in Plymouth, MN, near Portland, OR, Dassel, MN and Cokato, MN. She then moved back to the western suburbs of the Twin Cities.

She was the oldest of 7 and was her mother’s helper growing up. She had a natural artistic talent and was proud that she and a high school friend were called upon for all the school posters. She was an avid reader from a very young age and especially loved mysteries. Agatha Christi was her favorite author, but she was a speed-reader so read almost anything she could get her hands on.

After working many years waitressing in different restaurants, she moved to being a cook and then head cook in a nursing home. At age 55 she decided to go back to school to become a Dietary Director starting a new career at a mature age. She retired into caring for her grandsons Dalton and Jared in 1993 not long after Dalton was born. She helped raise them and was, and still is, “Nana” to many of their friends as well.

She was incredibly proud of her family and loved seeing her grand children, great grand children and great-great grand children. She was spunky and had a great sense of humor and liked to tease and be teased.

She attended St. Bartholomew Church with Jack, Lee and the boys for 21 years before she decided she wanted to become an official member of the church. She was confirmed into the Catholic faith on June 24th, 2014. She loved attending St. Bart’s and felt fully a part of the community.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean, and brothers Allen, Gary and Bob.

She is survived by children, Debbie (Matt) Crayford, Lee (Jack) Glover and Chuck (Lynn) English; grandchildren, Michael, Cora, Jared, Dalton, Ty and Erika; great grandchildren, Brendon, Bailey, Colby, Tyler, Brynlie and Jordan; great-grandchildren, Victor and Viv.
