Eleanor Henietha Bjorkquist
Eleanor Henietha (Simonsen) Bjorkquist, 87, passed away November 19, 2019, due to a traumatic brain injury suffered in an accident on November 1, 2019.
Eleanor was born on August 7, 1932 in Ivanhoe, MN. She went to Luther Junior College in Wahoo, NE where she met the love of her life, David Bjorkquist. She taught for one year in Ord, NE and married Dave on June 14, 1953 just prior to his induction into the army. Over the next 18 years, they moved several times (Louisiana, Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Missouri) and their family grew to include five children. In 1971, they returned to Minnesota and settled in Robbinsdale.
Eleanor lived her life for others; she was a joiner and a doer. She was an active member of a church in each place they lived including her final church home, Faith-Lilac Way in Robbinsdale, MN. A woman of great faith, she had a kind and genuine spirit. She volunteered for many years with the N.E.A.R. food shelf as well as Dinner-At-Your-Door. In fact, she delivered meals on the day of the accident. Family was everything to Eleanor. She was a natural and loving mother. She adored her grandchildren and was the main daycare provider for three of them. She was thrilled to become a great-grandmother in September, 2018. It is hard to imagine our family without her! She was an avid reader, puzzler, and game player. She lived her life thankful for every day and lifted up everyone around her as a result.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Christen and Clara Simonsen; and sisters Lauraine Brooker, Murriel Widmark, and Lois Mundt. She is survived by her beloved husband of 66 years, David Bjorkquist; children Anne (Jack), Brenda (Scott), Brian, Daniel, Carol (Scott); grandchildren Chris (Teresa), James (Ariel), Linnea, Anna (Andrew), Sarah, Laura; great-grandson Will; and many well-loved nieces and nephews.
Memorials preferred to NW Suburban Dinner-At-Your-Door and Faith-Lilac Way Lutheran Church. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
