Edward McCarthy

Edward J. McCarthy, age 88, of Eden Prairie, MN (formerly of Plymouth, MN) passed away on March 31, 2019. He was born to Harry and Bessie McCarthy of Newport News, VA.

He was preceded in death by loving wife, Louise of 52 years; parents, Harry and Bessie McCarthy; sisters, Patty Mutchko and Nancy Boerner.

He is survived by wife, Maxine Martin McCarthy; children, Kevin (Cindee), Patrick (Arlene), Colleen (Brandon) Guest and Michael (Linda) McCarthy; grandchildren, Mathew Guest, Elizabeth (Guest) Kibler, Caitlyn McCarthy and Ryan McCarthy. He will also be greatly missed by his loving relatives, stepdaughters Lynn Moffet, Natalie (Tom) Culhane, Valerie Hirshman, Tracy (Tom) Rheineck, step-grandchildren and friends. He is also survived by brothers, Harry and Patrick McCarthy of Newport News, VA and Sr. Bessie McCarthy of Belmont, NC.

He served in the Air Force for 37 months and upon his discharge moved to Minnesota. He got his business degree from the University of St. Thomas. Upon his graduation he started his career in grocery store management with Red Owl, Super Valu and Lunds, Inc. retiring in 1995. Upon his retirement he was always busy traveling, golfing, playing cards, socializing with friends and watching his grandchildren play sports. Sometimes the grandchild would say: “I could not always see you, but I heard your voice.”

Interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Pax Christi Church or to the Lupus Foundation.
