Dr. Edward Francis Joseph Forbes passed away peacefully in the presence of his loving family on August 31, 2020 at the age of 88 from natural causes. Born on April 21, 1932 to David and Kathryn (Linnihan) Forbes in Albert Lea, MN, he attended St Thomas College and later Creighton University Medical School in Omaha, NE.
It was there he met the first love of his life, Joan Catherine McGroarty, and was married in 1957. He served in the Air Force for 2 years before settling in Minneapolis, where he was an attending Anesthesiologist at the former St. Mary’s Hospital for 28 years.
Together, they raised 10 children in a loving, faith-filled home. He was a man of strong faith, who was completely devoted to God, his wife, and his family — who loved spending time with them traveling abroad, at home, in their cabin, or in Florida.
He had a tremendous devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary saying the Rosary daily all the way up to the very moment of his death.
His first wife, Joan, passed away after 32 years of marriage in 1989. He is survived from his first marriage by his children Ann Marie (Nicholas) Niemann, Michael (Dawn), William (Mary Diane), Thomas (Marie), Brian (Mimi), Robert (Donna), Richard (Ivy), Peggy (Paul) Meyers, Joseph (Courtney), Mary Elizabeth (Mike) Boedefeld, 54 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Three years later, he married the second love of his life, Jeanne Banovetz. He is survived by Jeanne and her children Ellen (Peter) Kaiser, Ann (Jim) Olson, Mary (James) Williams, John (Cindy) Banovetz, Joan (Murray) Blackman, and Carol (John) Powers, 19 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Genevieve and Phyllis (Bill) Carter, and survived by his sister Helen (Jim) Walsh.
We were truly blessed by God to have been raised by such a faith-filled, loyal, and devoted father. He will be truly missed, but his legacy of trusting in our Lord in all things and persevering in his faith will live on for generations.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life (MCCL) or the Pro Life Action Ministries.
