Douglas E Marquart Jr.
Age 62, of Annandale, MN, passed away unexpectedly on October 9 th , 2021. Doug was born on June 21 st , 1959, in Moorhead, MN, to Douglas Sr. & Janet Marquart. Doug grew up in Moorhead along with his five siblings where he attended various grade schools because his parents enjoyed flipping houses, sometimes only moving as far as around the block.
Doug needed more excitement than high school could provide, so in 1976, he joined the United States Marine Corps at age 17 where he got his GED. In July of 1979, he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corp. In January of 1983, he married his high school sweetheart Sandy (Singleton) Marquart. Six months later, they welcomed their first daughter Sarah. Then in 1985, oops, they had their second daughter, Laura. He attended North Dakota State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management.
After college, they moved to Mpls. where Doug got his first job and built a home in Apple Valley. Then, in 1991, oops they did it again, and welcomed their third daughter, Kari. He made sure that his three daughters had a childhood like no other. Sunday was always family day (not always appreciated by the kids). Who else can say that they had a commercial grade playground and luge track in their backyard? Family and fun were definitely Doug.
In 2000, Doug and his family moved to a fixer upper where they were constantly remodeling. The neighbors were always watching to see what crazy renovation would happen next, but the house had a pool which was something they’d always wanted. In 2006, he became the President of Shamrock Ventures Development where he worked for the remainder of his career. Doug left his mark on the construction industry managing the building of high-rise condominiums in downtown Mpls-10 to be exact.
Once Doug and Sandy became empty nesters, they moved to a condo that was built by the company Doug worked for. In 2012, Doug’s dream came true when they purchased a lake home on Lake Sylvia in Annandale. This became their weekend getaway until they moved there full-time in 2020. Some of his happiest times were at the lake where he was able to do all the things he loved. His days were spent boating, snowmobiling, building bonfires, and playing games (that of course Doug had adjusted the rules to). His boat house was decked-out and included a neon “open” sign to inform fellow boaters where the party was. If they couldn’t tell from the sign, the music blasting into the wee hours of the night was another giveaway as Doug loved his music. When he wasn’t hanging out on the beach, you could find him snuggled up on the couch watching a Hallmark movie. He took these movies very seriously and would send out critical reviews to his family on each one.
Doug was a primo jokester. You’ve probably been on the receiving end of one of his pranks. As a stress reliever, Doug would sing Karaoke. Mostly on his own, in the basement, despite his wife’s eardrums. Doug was always up for a good time with friends and family. He enjoyed golfing, losing at pull-tabs, and occasionally winning at the meat raffle. He truly lived by his favorite saying “You can’t put a price on fun.” Doug was an amazing father, a loving husband and great friend. He was truly loved by all.
