Mass of Christian Burial for Donna Kane
Donna Mae Kane (nee Kopp) of Wayzata, MN, our precious wife, mother, grandma, aunt, friend to all she met, passed away peacefully, from complications of dementia, surrounded by loved ones on November 16th. Donna’s faith was known to all and an integral part of her life. Until her final days, she never stopped praying and may have forgotten some things, but never forgot a word of her prayers. Her family was her greatest pride and joy. Her husband and high school sweetheart, Owen, was her soulmate and he made her happier than any one in her life. She loved her son, Michael and daughter, Cheryl with all her heart and never stopped giving of herself until she would drop to the couch for a 10 minute power nap.
Donna was born in St. Cloud, Minnesota on January 21st, 1937 and grew up in North Minneapolis. She graduated from Patrick Henry High School where she was an A student, winning debater, and cheerleader. She worked at various positions but when Mike and Cheryl arrived she was a stay at home mom until the early 80’s when she and a few friends decided to open a clothing boutique called The Side Door, Ltd. The store eventually became Donna’s and she ran the business for 31 years. Her daughter, Cheryl, was blessed to be by her side for 21 of those years and we think she would say these were the happiest years of her life. She spent time at their condo in Naples, FL and was able to meet even more wonderful friends, visit her son and Angel her daughter-in-law in Sarasota, and enjoy quality time with her family. Donna was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Bartholomew’s for many years, she was on the Board at St. Therese Senior Living, an accomplished painter, competitive tennis player, and lover of walking everyday with some of the best friends of her life. Her love of flowers, candles, sunrises, sunsets, vistas and views will be carried on for generations. Donna had a gift for making everyone she met feel special. She was authentic and genuine with her compliments. Many people would say, if they were feeling down, they would just go see Donna! She moved quickly and never held a grudge. She saw the best in everyone and her cup was always overflowing.
Donna is preceded in death by her dad Wilmont Kopp, her mom Irene Schaefer Kopp, her most loving brother Lee Kopp (Barbara) and sister in law Connie Kopp. She is survived by Owen, her husband and love of her life for 70 years, son Michael (Angel), daughter Cheryl Sattervall (Craig), 3 grandchildren Jackson, Mary Donna, Owen Henry, sister to loving brothers Bill and Ron Kopp and sister in law Pat, loving aunt to a multitude of nieces and nephews and countless friends. Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Tuesday, November 21st, with visitation one hour prior at The Church of St. Bartholomew, 630 E. Wayzata Blvd., Wayzata. In Lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to North Memorial Hospice, Interfaith Outreach or St. Bartholomew Catholic Church. In the event that you are not able to join the Kane family for Donna’s services, you can live stream the Mass at her funeral home obituary page at www.gearty-delmore.com.
