Don is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Karen Moore; sisters, Jean Lange and Helen Roach; brother, James Moore (Pat); sisters-in-law, Lynda Moore and Alice Willson; brothers-in-law, Dick Burbach (Irma) and Marv Burbach (Jan); eight children, Wayne Royse (Karen), Lauree Soulier, Janice Royse, Pat Schoenecker (Ann), Margy Vagt, Katy McKee (John), David Moore (Tina), and Jason Butler; 17 grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael, Jeremy, Craig (Sarah), Krystle, Shawn, Rachel, Kristin, Sonja, Gretchen, Aaron, Noah, Merle, Jan, Hudson, Jacob and Ava; and two great-grandchildren John and Craig; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A native of Windsor, Ontario, Canada, Don became a US citizen in 2019. After his wife and family, Don's first love was trains. His early years were spent as a fireman and engineer on the Canadian National Railroad in Canada. After moving to the United States, Don worked as an ironworker until 1983, when his part-time model railroad business became a full-time operation. He continued working at his mail order business right up to his death. Don was a charter member of the St. Cloud Northern Model RR Club for over 50 years, and was actively participating in the creation of a model railroad layout in Norwood-Young America with his railroad buddies Joe Smith, Mike McCalley, Marty Theissen, Mike Brown and Aaron McKee.
Don was a devoted husband, loving father and doting grandfather. He delighted in spending time with his grandchildren and cherished every moment with them. Don loved classical music and loved to dance. He was a great storyteller and an avid listener. Don was proud of his John Deere tractors and owned three at one time. Never idle and always in motion, he loved to garden or be outdoors working on one of his many projects. Don loved life and lived it to the fullest!
We are forever grateful to Dr. Daniel James Sullivan and staff at Methodist Hospital for their compassionate care during Don's brief stay. We also wish to thank the Hospice and Long Term Care staff at Sholom Care Center in St. Louis Park for their loving, compassionate attention and care during Don's final days.
A mass of Christian burial will take place on August 20 at St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Church in Plymouth at 11:00 am. There will be visitation one hour prior to the mass at the church. A private family burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Maple Grove.
