Dennis "Denny" Richard Hower

Hower, Dennis Richard

We are deeply saddened by the loss of Dennis (Denny) Hower, age 85, who passed away on October 4, 2020 following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Dennis was born in Estherville, Iowa on August 01, 1935 to Gaylord and Nina (Dennis) Hower. The family moved to Worthington, Minnesota in 1936. Following high-school graduation in 1953, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1957. Returning to Minnesota, he obtained a law degree in 1963 from the University of Minnesota. During 1965 and 1966 he completed post graduate study in business and education. Making his decision as to career choice, Dennis joined the faculty at the University of Minnesota General College (now department in the College of Education and Human Development) as an instructor in 1963 until his retirement in 1997 as a professor.

Permanently residing in the Minneapolis area, Dennis and his wife Audrey enjoyed spending winters in Oceanside, California during their retirement.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Rhonna Koepsell and husband Ralston; nephew Michael Koepsell; and brother-in-law, Rudolph Kivisto and wife Sally.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey; sister, Debra Johnson and husband Randall; brother-in-law, Forrest Kivisto and wife Virginia; many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Dennis will be missed by all who knew him. He was a fantastic son, brother, uncle, husband, teacher and friend who will be with us always. A memorial service will be determined at a later date.

If so desired, memorials will be appreciated to: Grossman Center for Memory Research and Care Fund 11189, University of Minnesota Foundation, P.O. Box 860266, Minneapolis, MN 55486-0266.

Thank you to all family, friends, and caregivers who helped Denny these last few years. “When I grow too old to sing, the song will still be in my heart.”
