Dennis C. Covington

Dennis “Denny” Covington was born in Minneapolis on November 11 th , 1946, to Ken and Marie Covington. He died in Minneapolis on November 29 th , 2019 surrounded by his wife and children.

Denny graduated from Robbinsdale High School and attended the Brown Institute. He served in the U.S. Army in Thailand during the Vietnam war doing radio communications. After his service he went to work at the Robbinsdale School district doing audio-visual repair and then as a low-voltage technician. He retired in 2010 after 35 years of making sure that systems were up and running anytime day or night.

He volunteered with the Special Olympics and various other projects and causes; whatever his friends were working on, he happily took a hand. He was passionate about being able to help whenever anyone had a need—whether it was plowing driveways, fixing anything mechanical or technical, getting a tractor unstuck, and anything else that needed doing. He took great joy in many projects and tinkering, spending time with grandchildren, blacksmithing, and spending time getting into mechanical mischief with friends. His passion for working with his hands was matched by his voracious appetite for reading and acquiring new knowledge.

Post-retirement he was part of the Guild of Metalsmiths, the American Truck Historical Society, and was involved in various threshing shows and demonstrations.

He is survived by loving wife of 42 years, Nancy. Son Chris (Denise) Covington, daughters Rebecca Covington and Melissa (Derrick) Covington-Damm. Grandchildren Emily and Ben Covington, Nadia and Simone Damm. Sister Wendy (Tom) Penna, nieces and nephews.

Denny is preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie, his mother and father.

The family wishes to thank the North Memorial and M. Health Fairview Hospital ICU staff for their exceedingly compassionate and dedicated care.
