Mass of Christian Burial for David Fischer

David Michael Fischer

August 21, 1946 - February 10, 2025

David Michael Fischer, age 78, of Brooklyn Park, MN passed away peacefully on February 10th, 2025. David (Dave) was born to Minnie (Olsen) and Alphonse Fischer on August 21st, 1946 in Worthington, MN. He is number 11 of 16 children in his family. Dave graduated from Worthington High School in 1964 and after a few months of attending college, he moved up to Minneapolis. He started working as a car mechanic at Shoppers City and other car dealerships, then moved on to Crown Auto. Dave later moved on to join a partner in 1972 and had JMC Automotive in Hopkins until he retired and sold it in June of 2020. Dave loved and found great joy working with his hands and fixing things both at home and at the office.

Dave met the love of his life, wife, Janet Viaene in June of 1965. They were married on May 11th, 1968 and welcomed their daughter, Julie, in 1972 and son, Michael, in 1976. Dave loved to travel, work in the yard and relax in his swing on the deck at home. Dave had a very big sweet tooth (you could always count on him to have some Oreos, Tootsie Rolls or Snickers nearby). Dave was very generous, humble, thoughtful and helped many friends and family throughout the years. Dave's humor and playful spirit were a constant source of laughter; he was famous for throwing family and friends into the lake, finding endless amusement in their reactions. Dave also enjoyed cars, theatre, and cherished spending time with friends and family.

When Dave would travel for work, it often required long drives, but he was determined to always make it home every night, so he became infamous for his speeding skills and tickets. Dave also lived on Dave time - Time was always flexible in Dave's world-"10 minutes" became a running joke with those who knew and loved him. It didn't matter if it was getting somewhere or how long something would take to do. Dave enjoyed helping others and the time he spent with them. Dave was deeply connected to his faith and found great purpose in his volunteer work with his church, and building lasting friendships within his church community.

Dave is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Janet and two children, Julie Fischer (Minnetonka) and Michael Fischer (Brooklyn Park). He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Edward Fischer (Cathy) of Plymouth, John Fischer (Karen) of Springfield, MO, Marlene Fischer of Santa Barbara, CA, Arnold Fischer (Judy) of Worthington, Diana Kirk (Brian) of Post Falls, ID, Thomas Fischer of Round Rock, TX, Rita Douglas (Ron) of Brooklyn Park, Paul Fischer of Worthington, and Theresa Lueck (David) of Eden Prairie as well as many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Alphonse and Minnie, brothers; Slyvester, Arthur, Randall and sisters; Dorothy, Cecilia, and Shirley.

Visitation will be February 17th from 4-7 PM at Gearty-Delmore Funeral Home in Plymouth (15800 - 37th Ave N). Funeral Services will be February 18th at 10:00 AM at St. Raphael's Church in Crystal (7301 Bass Lake Road) with visitation one hour prior and luncheon and burial to follow.

Dave's kindness, humor, and generous heart will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
