Darrell Erwin Tilleskjor

Darrell Erwin Tilleskjor, age 84, of Plymouth, Minnesota, passed away December 29, 2020 after a month-long battle with Covid.  Preceded in death by his parents, Guy E. and Marie (Hoyt) Tilleskjor; sister Gloria Duvernay; brothers-in-law: Robert Duvernay, Gerald O’Keefe, Joseph O’Keefe, and Don Braucht; and sister-in-law Mary Braucht.

Darrell is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Colleen Ann (O’Keefe) Tilleskjor; three children: Darrell (Leslie) Tilleskjor, Gary (Lina) Tilleskjor, and Lisa Tilleskjor; five grandchildren: Anthony (Stephanie) Tilleskjor, Sara (Jason) Harris, Amanda Armagost, Zackary Martinez, and Antonio Martinez; two great grandchildren: Luke Harris and Christian Tilleskjor; brother Kerwin Tilleskjor; and sisters Lorraine Smrcka and Daria Nelson.

Darrell was born September 21, 1936 at Anoka Hospital in Anoka, MN during the great depression.  He was the third of five children of Guy and Marie Tilleskjor, who were both Deaf and communicated via American Sign Language.  Darrell’s father, Guy, was a laborer who worked incredibly hard to provide for his family.  Guy’s strong work ethic, self-sufficiency and wit lived in all of his children.  Darrell grew up in rural Blaine in a three-room house with a kitchen, living room, and one bedroom, with no indoor plumbing.  The family did not have much in terms of material items, but they enjoyed time together in work and play.

Darrell graduated third in class from Anoka High School in 1954.  During his junior and senior years of high school, he worked after school as a bookkeeper and office assistant at a local car dealership.  While attending college, Darrell worked full-time at the dealership as a bookkeeper and car salesman.  Darrell graduated with distinction from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelors of Science in Business with an accounting major and finance minor, and served 10 years in the Minnesota National Guard attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class.

Darrell and Colleen were married on August 30, 1958 at St. Stephens Catholic Church in Anoka.  Colleen was the love of his life and he truly cherished their time together.  Their first home was in New Hope, later settling in Plymouth, MN.  They enjoyed traveling with family and friends including cruises to Alaska and the Mediterranean, sight-seeing in the United Kingdom, Italy and Norway, or simply relaxing in Hawaii.

Darrell spent the first part of his career at Carlson Companies including an assignment during the mid-60s in London, England where the family lived for about 18 months.  Most of his career was at PBA Inc., where he rose from Controller to Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer, retiring in 1995.  After retiring, Darrell worked part-time as the CFO of IQ Marketing, and served as a consultant to a number of companies in the areas of finance and marketing.

Darrell was an active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Plymouth, MN.  He enjoyed cross word puzzles, reading, playing cards and board games, traveling, gardening, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.  His family was always the center of his life.

Darrell was known for his warm “bear-hugs,” and will be fondly remembered by his family and friends as a kind, generous, hard-working and loving man. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him.
