Darleen Marie Hagen
On Thursday, August 24, 2023, Darleen Marie Hagen, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at the age of 89 surrounded by family. Darleen was born on March 27, 1934 in Milwaukee, WI to Z.W. “Bill” and Hazel Day. She received her diploma from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 1955, and became a Registered Nurse. While in nursing school, she met the love of her life Francis Dale Hagen. On November 26, 1955, they were married.
Darleen and Fran began raising their growing family in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, before moving to Minnesota and eventually settling down in Plymouth. Darleen worked nights at Mission Farms in Plymouth, MN and then St. Therese in New Hope, MN, so that she could be home with her family during the day. Her caring ways for those in need extended beyond her nursing career with her many hours volunteering for Meals-on-Wheels and blood pressure clinics at church.
When she retired from nursing, Darleen started her second (and likely her favorite) career as Gramma to her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether she was playing games, reading stories, spending time at the lake, or watching Vikings games on Sundays, she always had a twinkle in her eye, a smile on her face, and the warmest of hugs for her family.
Darleen was preceded in death by her loving husband Fran, her mother Hazel, her father Bill, sister Imogene (Giles) Riske, and brother Leon Day. She is survived by her five children, Fran (Terri), Jeff (Kathy), Janet (Craig Hamilton), Jim, and John (Amy); 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; her brother Roland, sister Christine, and sister-in-law Marianne.
A Celebration of Darleen’s life will be held on Friday, September 8, 2023 from 6-8 p.m., at the Gearty-Delmore Funeral Chapel, 15800 37th Ave N, Plymouth, MN. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 8701 36th Ave N, New Hope, MN. Luncheon to follow the funeral mass. Interment at Gethsemane Cemetery, New Hope, MN.
Memorial donations in memory of Darleen may be made to the North Memorial Health Foundation - Hospice Program, Robbinsdale, MN.
