Daniel Monson

December 20, 1957 — July 22, 2016

Daniel Monson

Dan was the third of three boys of David & Marguerite Monson. Growing up in the Robbinsdale School District, he played baseball, rode his mini-bike, was involved in many school theater productions, and played trumpet through high school.

While attending the University of MN, he was on the cheer squad, and became an active member of Kappa Sigma fraternity. He graduated with a degree in Broadcast Journalism. His decades-long career as a multi-award winning investigative reporter and television anchor took him from Minnesota to Colorado Springs, Las Vegas, and finally to Kansas City. Health concerns prompted his retirement from his promising career. He recently earned a Master’s degree in Psychology, and planned to become a counselor in the coming months.

Dan loved collecting antiques, working on his home in Robbinsdale, and riding his motorcycle. He was often seen riding around town with his dog snuggled inside his jacket, wearing matching goggles and helmet.

He dearly loved his two boys, Tanner and Danny, spending time with family and friends, and being a friend to those less fortunate. His strong faith carried him through the rough patches in life, and he was confident about joining his Savior when it was time to move on.

Dan is survived by brothers Jon (Mary) and Mike (Stacy); sons Tanner and Daniel; uncle David (Betty) Berg; nieces, nephews, cousins, his beloved dog Athena, and many, many friends.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to Dr. Amy Knopke-Mooney and the staff of the North Memorial 7S ICU unit for their wonderful care and professionalism.
