Dan Fortin was born on March 13, 1941, and died on July 9, 2018, at age 77.
He was preceded in death by parents Emil and Harriet Fortin, and his aunt Esther Fortin.
He is survived by cousins Dorothy Leathers, Joanne Torborg, Gerald Fortin, and Pat Zachau.
Dan attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from De La Salle High School in 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1961 and served until 1983; he truly got to see the world, including Japan, Iceland, Europe, and the Caribbean, as well as many places in the States. After retiring from the Navy, Dan worked at Tol-O-Matic until his final retirement. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Church in Robbinsdale, teaching CCD classes and volunteering. He loved music and liked to sing as a member of the Sacred Heart choir and the Knights of Columbus Chorus. Dan showed his love for kids and for railroading by volunteering as a Cub Scout adult leader for many years; and at the St Paul Jackson Street Roundhouse and Osceola & St Croix Valley Railway. He also volunteered at Eastman Nature Center and was a 2017 volunteer award recipient.
Heartfelt thanks to North Memorial Hospice staff and St Therese Skilled Nursing for their loving care in Dan’s last weeks.
