Dana Kamerud, 69, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 surrounded by his family at his home in Deephaven, Minnesota.
To celebrate his life while he was still with us, on Saturday, April 23, 2016 his family and friends gathered to reminisce, share stories and let him know how much he impacted their lives and how loved he was by all that knew him.
Dana was born and raised in his beloved Chaska, Minnesota, graduated Hamline University and the University of Minnesota where he received an MS and Ph.D. in Mathematics. He taught Mathematics at St. Louis University until 1979 before moving to Grosse Pointe, Michigan where he completed his career at General Motors. In 2011, Dana and his wife, Lois, moved back to Minnesota to enjoy their retirement years closer to family.
His many friends will remember him for his kind and gentle way, his humility, and his honesty. He described himself as "a lover of life" and his was a life well lived. He loved all things family; his greatest pride in life was being a father to his daughters, Jenny and Julie. He also loved music, puttering in the yard, doing the New York Times crossword puzzles always in pen, biking, traveling near and far with friends, birdwatching and most of all learning.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Lois; daughters, Jenny Kamerud and Julie (Paul) Weis; mother, Amber; brothers, Brian (Wendy), Joe (JoAnn), Ross (Mary Jo), John (Mary) and sister, Janet (Karl) Emerson; several nieces and nephews and his in laws, David Nicoll, and Judy (Tom) Mottaz.
Preceded in death by his father, Leon.
Private interment Groveland Cemetery.
