Cynthia C. Corcoran

Cynthia Carol Corcoran was born on September 18 th 1961.  She survived a difficult premature birth to become our beautiful, sweet tempered, fun loving Cindy.  She was the sixth of eight children and the youngest daughter of Lyle and Carroll.  Her gentle and loving demeanor made her our much loved little sister.  Cindy was quiet, creative and intelligent and loved school, so was an excellent student throughout her educational career.  She inherited our mother’s gift of an artistic mind and heart, enjoying drawing, painting, writing short stories and occasional cake decorating.   She had fun creating crafty projects and embroidery.  She also took up photography as a hobby in early adulthood.  She enjoyed singing in the choir both in school and in the youth choir at St. Raphael Church.

When Cindy was 17 years old she was diagnosed with leukemia.  She quickly went into remission but had to endure many months of chemotherapy.  Despite her cancer treatments, she was able to graduate from Cooper High School with her class in 1979.  She then began her college career in the winter of 1980 and earned her four year degree as an English major from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph MN.

Cynthia was a deeply spiritual person and devoted her adult life to her Christian faith.  She spent many hours in prayer and helped to guide others to obtain a relationship with God as a spiritual leader in her Church.

She lived in St. Paul for many years and held several jobs in the business world.  She also worked with a charity organization run by Franciscan nuns which she enjoyed very much.  When that organization closed she found it difficult to find a job in her preferred line of work.  She worked briefly in childcare, then moved to Millerville to enjoy life on the lake with our mother.  Bird watching became her new beloved pastime with the wide variety of bird species who lived on and around the lake.  She worked at the Brandon Elementary School as a reading para helping her young students to learn and enjoy reading.  Most recently she was attending online classes from Grand Canyon University in her quest to earn her elementary school teaching certificate.

Cynthia spent the last several years taking care of our mother.  Her steady presence and patience helped mom feel safe, loved and well cared for.  We will be forever grateful that she was there for our mom in her time of need.

Cynthia did not marry and so did not have children of her own.  But she loved children and spending time with her nieces and nephews and more recently her ten grand nieces and nephews.  She was engaging and creative with her young students and all children who also enjoyed spending time with her.

Cynthia is preceded in death by her father Lyle, sister Colleen and brother Timothy.  She is survived by her mother Carroll, sisters Lynn Frangier (Steve), Lorrie Minnich (Jim), Lee Anne Kufahl (Ken), brothers Dan (Geralyn) and Michael (Sara) Corcoran and brother-in-law John Cavanagh.   Nieces and nephews, Matthew and Joel Frangier, Tony (Katie) Minnich, Andy (Summer) Minnich, Adam (Kelly) Minnich, Colin and Mitchell Kufahl, Megan, Katlyn, Ryan Corcoran, Cate Cavanagh (Keith) Brown and Erin Corcoran.

Also her grand nieces and nephews, Oliver and Luella Minnich, Nolan, Cullen, Kyla Minnich, Owen, Elin, Mason, Cameron Minnich and Scarlett Kufahl.
