Christopher "Chris" John Pilon, age 71, of Crystal, MN, beloved husband, brother, uncle, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday January 15. He is survived by his wife of 36 years Karleen, siblings Tom (Tim) (Sue Clark) Pilon, Kathy (Gary) Gates, Jan (Denny) Sponsler, Mark (Sue Storick) Pilon, Jeff (Sue Menard) Pilon, Rick (Jennifer) Pilon, Dave (Joanne) Pilon, Susan Bushard and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Preceded in death by father Armand, mother Janet (Needham), brother Stephen, sister-in-law Karen, and niece Grace.
Chris was born in Peoria, Illinois on September 10, 1950, the fourth of nine children. His family moved to Milwaukee, Minneapolis, and Omaha, lastly where he spent his grade school years. He was an excellent student, graduating salutatorian of his high school class of 1968 at Archbishop Rummel High School of Omaha amid very stiff competition. He attended the University of Portland from 1968-1970 majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science and re-joined the family which had moved to Minneapolis in 1970 and attended the University of Minnesota for a time.
Chris was an avid sports fan and participant. He played baseball, softball, golf, and racquetball and enjoyed watching baseball, softball, football, hockey, and golf throughout his life. He remained a passionate Nebraska Cornhusker "Husker" fan the rest of his life. His other interests included music of all kinds, reading including history and science fiction, duplicate bridge, any kind of puzzle, spelunking (caving), biking, camping, and fireworks. He produced and performed many excellent fireworks shows for his family and friends.
He used his natural mathematical talents in tutoring classmates in various areas of mathematics both in high school and college and continued to do so with family members and others into his adult life. He made practical use of his logic and analytic skills when he attended Hennepin Technical College in 1995 and began working immediately as a computer programmer / analyst and enjoyed it immensely until his retirement in May of 2020.
Although he left us far too soon, it is a blessing that he passed without pain. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
