Rolando, Charles L. (Chuck)
Age 92 years, of Plymouth, MN was called home to our Lord on October 27th. He was born in Hibbing, MN on August 15, 1928. He was preceded in death by his son, Terrence James Rolando, his parents - Charles L. Rolando, Sr. and Kathryn (Klein) Rolando and his sister, Doreen Kotula. He is survived by his spouse, Mary Ann (Penn) Rolando and four children, Marcus Charles Rolando (Cheri), Brenda Marie Rolando (Eric), Timothy John Rolando, Amy Rolando-Sexton (Scott); sister, Carolyn Backman. He was a caring and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Chuck was known to many as an accountant, teacher and musician. He was a graduate of Hibbing High School, Hibbing Jr. College and the University of St. Thomas (BA) and the University of Minnesota (MA). He worked in his firm, Thorsen, Campbell, Rolando and Lehne for over 30 years and was a lifetime member of the MN Assoc. Of Certified Public Accountants. As a teacher, Chuck taught at Hibbing Jr. College, the Univ. of MN and the University of St. Thomas.
Chuck served in the Army during the Korean conflict at Fort Harrison, Indiana where he met his loving bride, Mary Ann. While he was there, he taught at the officer’s training school for 2 years. He also served on the board for the MN Alliance for the mentally ill.
Chuck’s avocation and tremendous talent was playing the piano and organ. From playing Christmas songs, musicals, and classics for his family while they sang along, to challenging organ pieces from Wagner to Chopin, he was always happy to challenge his skills and sharing his talent with others. He also had a swing band in high school and began playing the organ at his hometown parish at age 15. He continued accompanying and directing choirs, and singing in choirs for over 70 years.
Chuck’s family recently gathered with him and Mary Ann to celebrate their 65th Wedding Anniversary. We were all blessed to share this special event with each other and to honor their marriage. Dad’s humor, positivity, compassion and caring demeanor were his gifts that will endure and will be remembered by all who knew him. His legacy of deep faith continues to be treasured and a testament on how to live a beautiful, faith-filled, and well lived life.
