Charles Albert Hinken of Burnsville, MN, passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2020 at the age of 97.
Charles, the son and only child of Albert and Wilhelmina Hinken, was born in Hampton, IA, on July 5, 1922. Charles served his country in the United States Army Air Forces during WWII. He married the love of his life, Mary Virginia “Ginny” Sernett, on February 21, 1946. They raised their family in Algona, IA where Chuck spent the majority of his business career in retail, managing R. M. Harrison Variety Store for 28 years. Following this he sold advertising in southern Minnesota for Farm and Home Publishing/Directory Service Company, which prompted their move to Burnsville, MN. Chuck and Ginny spent 72 years together guiding all those around them with their wisdom, example, and love.
Ginny passed away in September 2018, preceding Chuck in death by less than two years. He was also preceded in death by his sons-in-law David Holterhaus and Alan Kehe.
Chuck is survived by his three daughters, Marcia Holterhaus of Circle Pines, MN; Mary (Steve) Marquard of Faribault, MN; and Janet Kehe of Palatine, IL; as well as his grandchildren, Jill, Mark, and John (Brooke) Holterhaus; Luke, Michael (Samantha), and Anna Marquard; and Alex and Lisa Kehe; and by his great-grandchildren, PJ and Charles Sandhei; Beatrice and Bernard Holterhaus; Taylor Holterhaus; and Samuel, Lucy, Louis, and Oscar Marquard; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM on Saturday, October 17 at The Church of the Good Shepherd, 145 Jersey Ave. S., Golden Valley. Visitation one hour prior. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. Arrangements are being completed by Gearty Delmore Funeral Chapel of Robbinsdale, MN.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Augustana Regent at Burnsville for their Peace Garden Project, 14500 Regent Lane, Burnsville, MN 55306; or to Grace Hospice, 1015 4th Avenue North, Suite 206, Minneapolis, MN, 55405.
