Catherine Amato, wife of Joseph (Joe), died August 12, 2021 in Edina, MN.

Cathy was born in Hazleton, PA on December 19, 1940 to Catherine Polansky and Adam Bavolack. She graduated from McAdoo High School in 1958 and earned a diploma in nursing in 1961 at the Hospital of University of PA. She worked as an RN in Philadelphia for several years.

Cathy moved to Rochester, NY and earned a BSN in 1966. She met Joe in the cafeteria of Strong Memorial Hospital, and they were married on August 6, 1966. Soon after the wedding, they headed out to Riverside, CA.

1969 brought them to Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, MN, where they raised four children and hiked, walked the trails, bicycled and cross-country skied. Later they travelled to Europe to visit their immigrant grandparents’ areas and enjoyed the fun of travel together and with others.

When the grandchildren came to Marshall, it was filled with busy days of exploring, cooking pirohii and other specialties, biking local trails and games. Cathy and Joe moved to the Twin Cities in 2014 and enjoyed even more activities with their families.

Cathy leaves behind Joe, husband of 55 years; children, Felice Amato, Anthony (Felixa) Amato, Adam (Anne) Amato, Beth (Brent) Lindholm; grandchildren, Rosalia and Eva Amato-Bauer, Sergei Sergeev, Julia and Ben Amato and Max Lindholm; sister, Jean Ann (Eric) Davenport and her family.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held 2 PM on Monday, August 30, 2021 at the Church of St. Gabriel the Archangel – St. Joseph Campus, 1300 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN. Family will receive friends 30 minutes before Mass at the church. Cathy will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Resurrection Cemetery in Shorewood, MN.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park and Trails Councils of MN.
