Carol Francene (Weber) Smith, was one of two children of Clayton and Agnes (Hawkinson) Weber, born November 21, 1936 in Sterling, Illinois. She grew up on a farm in north central Illinois, and graduated from Prophetstown Community High School, Prophetstown, Illinois. Her graduate degree was earned at Augustana College, Rock Island, Illinois.
Carol married Charles P. Smith of Evanston, IL on August 9 th , 1958 at the First Methodist Church in Prophetstown, IL.
Her career included teaching positions in the public schools of Rock Island, Illinois, Hopkins, Minnesota, followed by eighteen years with Kinder Care Learning Centers, Inc. as teacher, director, and district manager in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. After moving to Glenwood, Iowa she worked eight years as a receptionist and medical records clerk for the Methodist Health Care System.
Carol and Chuck travelled extensively in their 5 th wheel after retirement and hosted the American Association of Woodturners Loess Hills Club at their woodshop.
While living in Iowa, Carol was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Mineola, Thanksgiving Lutheran Church, Bellevue, NE, and Grace Methodist Church in Glenwood. She was spiritually nurtured as family in each congregation. She served on church councils, various committees, taught church school and sang in the choir.
She was a member of the Glenwood Garden Club, Red Hats, and the library book club.
She passed away at her home in Plymouth, Minnesota on August 24 th , 2018.
Carol is survived by her sister, Janet Gabrielson of Pleasanton, California; children, Karl P. Smith of Plymouth, MN, Nikki Linen of Anaheim, CA and Dawn Scarince of Landen, WY; and eight grandchildren.
Preceded in death by husband, Charles.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Barnabas Center for the Arts or Lutheran World Relief.
