Carol Gertrude McNamara

Carol Gertrude McNamara of Winchester, VA, formerly of Park Forest, IL, died Sunday November 21 at Reston Hospital in VA.  She was born on January 10, 1930 in Elmwood, WI to Dr. E. M. Stein DMV and Olga Berthina (Nyeggen) Stein.  In 1953 Carol married the love of her life, Donald C. McNamara, who preceded her in death in 1989.  Her family often heard her say there was no one else in the world for her but her Donnie.

Carol’s service to her country included working for the Central Intelligence Agency as bookends to her career, first in the 1950s and then again in the 1990s, retiring in February 1994.  In between, she worked as a homemaker and as a Mental Health Technician at the Elizabeth Ludeman Center in Park Forest.

She is survived by her daughter, Jolene McNamara of Herndon, VA; a son, James McNamara (Karen) of Crown Point IN; grandsons Jacob (Marissa) of Portage, IN, Patrick (Alissa) of Hobart, IN, Robert of Hebron, IN, and Michael of Crown Point IN; granddaughter Avery; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter Jeanine, brother Robert, sister Mary Ellen, and step-sisters Audrey Feiler and Shirley Helgeson.

A service and burial were held at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota on December 6.  Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of the United States or other animal rights organizations.
