Carol Jean Borman was born Saturday, November 17, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to George and Philomene Daugherty. Carol was the youngest of seven children.
Carol attended Ascension Catholic School in North Minneapolis, St. Anthony of Padua High School in Northeast Minneapolis, and received her Bachelor's degree from the University of Minnesota. She spent most of her career at Hennepin Technical College as a Library Technician. Growing up, Carol loved to travel and loved to learn.
Carol met Butch in 1978. On their first date, Butch laughed about how Carol ordered a hot fudge sundae with a Diet Coke. Their connection was almost instant, and they married six months later on October 20, 1978.
Carol and Butch bought their first house in North Minneapolis before buying their current house in Crystal where they raised their three children: Luke, Laura, and Kate. They enjoyed taking family trips and vacations, and kept busy attending their children’s various activities. Carol loved being a mom and grandma, supporting each family member in every way possible.
Carol was a devout Catholic. Her faith in God and the Church gave her the strength to overcome so many trials and tribulations including two types of breast cancer and fallopian tube cancer. Carol volunteered for many years at the Cancer Resource Center at Unity Hospital to help others who faced similar health struggles. This past year she fought tirelessly against treatment-induced Myelodysplastic Syndrome, which ultimately took her life. We want to thank Carol’s compassionate health care team at Minnesota Oncology, her nurses on 2W at Mercy Hospital, and her oncologist, Dr. David King. Your care kept her going more than you will ever know. Thank you.
Despite all of her health battles, she never lost her faith. Carol always saw the good in every situation, and she was so blessed to live each day. She often told her loved ones that “every day is a gift” and hoped that others will someday benefit from what her doctors learned while treating her.
Carol passed away August 9, 2024 in the company of family. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, George and Philomene Daugherty; brothers, Robert Daugherty and Michael (Elaine) Daugherty; brothers-in-law Richard Bloomberg and Herman Kubow; and other loved ones.
She is survived by her husband, Francis “Butch” Borman; son, Luke (Catherine) Borman, and their children, Owen, Carina, and Wyatt Borman; daughter, Laura (David) Rodriguez Sr., and their children, Mia Carol and David Rodriguez Jr.; daughter, Kate (Jak) Borman; sisters Kathleen Kubow and Rosemary Bloomberg, brothers Thomas (Rose) Daugherty and Larry (Leslie) Daugherty, sister-in-law Jan Daugherty, and many nieces and nephews.
