Carl George Dixon, age 78, of St. Louis Park, passed away Sat., Sept. 3, 2016.
Born in Detroit in 1938, Carl moved to Hancock , MI when he was 2 and graduated from Hancock High School in 1956. He became a merchant sailor, going out on the oar boats starting in 1956, working on and off for 4 to 5 years. During this time he went to CA and played in a band.
Carl returned to Mpls and got a job as a bellhop at the Normandy Hotel while attending Brown Institute. Upon graduation, he was hired by WTCN to work in radio in 1960, and was asked to come up and work for TV; he did so for 41 years, working for WTCN, WUSA, and later KARE.
Carl is survived by loving wife of 49 years, Susan; son, Bret Abbott; step son, Troy Sizer; four grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Middlecamp; nephew Joel Lampe; other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be 11am Wed., Sept. 7 at Gearty-Delmore Park Chapel, 3960 Wooddale Ave S. (@ Excelsior Blvd), with visitation one hour prior to the service. Interment in Riverside Cemetery, Grantsburg, WI.
