It is with great sadness and much love that we mourn the passing of Bertha Lee (Fling) Carter of Rosemount on Monday, May 17, 2021, at the age of 78 years. Bertha will be lovingly remembered by her children, Thad (Tamara) and Corrin (Dan) Carter, Terese (Dana) Thune, and Chandra (Dan) Henrich. Bertha is also survived by her three cherished grandchildren, Joel (Samantha), Leif, and Josie Thune. Bertha was predeceased by her sister Gerie Fling, and parents Frank and Justina (Tena) Fling.

A Celebration of Bertha’s life will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation starting at 11:30 a.m., at the Lakewood Memorial Chapel, 3600 Hennepin Ave. South, Minneapolis. Those who so desire may make memorial donations in memory of Bertha to MPR or the Audubon Society.

A native of Webster, South Dakota, Bertha attended South Dakota State and Northern University, graduating with a degree in education and received a masters of education at Augustana University.

Bertha worked with students at a school for the blind before making her career as a special education and reading teacher for 29 years at Scott Highlands and Rosemount Middle School.

She was a volunteer at the Minnesota Zoo, the DFL, and an election worker for years. In retirement she became a Master Gardener, a Master Naturalist, and enjoyed many art classes.
