Bernice Sophie Schroeder

Bernice (Hahn) Schroeder

Bernice was born on May 29, 1928, in Watkins, MN to Theodore and Annie Hahn. She was one of seven children. She had four brothers and two sisters; one sister passed away as an infant.  She went to Holy Angels Grade School then to Tech High School in St. Cloud. She graduated on her 18 th birthday in 1946. After graduation, she worked as a secretary for four years.

In 1950, she married Rolland (Rollie) Schroeder of St. Cloud. They moved to Wisconsin Rapids, WI for four years while Rollie served his apprenticeship in printing at the newspaper. While there, they had three children. In 1954 they moved to Minneapolis, MN for Rollie’s job at the Star Tribune and they had four more children. Their marriage flourished for 49 years until cancer took Rollie in 1999.

After having seven children (Diana, Mike, Debbie, Tom, Rick, Joyce and Janet). Bernice went to work in 1972 at Penney’s at Brookdale part-time transitioning to full time. She worked there for thirteen years. She then took a job at Donaldson’s at Brookdale for nine years until it closed. She then worked at the Anoka State Bank for two years until she retired in 1990.

She was a Charter Member of St Alphonsus Church and a Charter Member of St Gabriel Guild. She participated with the Guild at the Fun Fairs, Christmas Bazaars, and many mission projects. For many years she enjoyed her Tuesday morning mass, Rosary and breakfast with her church friends.

Bernice was very dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary and Our Mother of Perpetual Help Devotions. She prayed the 54-day Rosary Novena to our Lady for her loved ones and received many miracles.

She provided a loving home making each of her children feel like they were special. Over the years she enjoyed golfing, playing cards, reading, and puzzles. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and she made putting together a meal for 50 people look easy. Her physical absence will leave a void in our lives, but the great love and faith with which she lived her life will fill our hearts forever.

Preceeded in death by parents Theodore and Annie (Pietz) Hahn, husband Rolland Schroeder, son Richard Schroeder, son-in-law James Renckens, grandson-in-law Brendan Olszewski, great grandson Bennett Renckens, siblings Vernon, Leander, Daniel, Delores Hahn and Darlene Ducklow.
