Barbara Ann (Touchette) Seacord

Barbara “Barb” Ann Seacord, of Plymouth (formerly of Northfield), passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center, with her family and friends at her side, from complications of NASH liver disease.

Barb, the oldest of four siblings, was born on November 10, 1956, to Dale and Ann (Ping) Touchette, in Belleville, IL. In 1969, her family settled in Northfield, MN, where she attended Northfield High School as a proud Raiders cheerleader, graduating in 1974. She then attended University of Wisconsin - Stout, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics Education. Despite her degree and remarkable talent for apparel design and construction, Barb eventually found herself wanting to branch out into computers and networks after exposure to the field during her first few jobs out of college. From there, she became a computer whiz, working in various IT roles throughout her career until her retirement in 2020.

When she wasn’t working (or helping her family and friends with their computer problems), Barb enjoyed creating exquisite pieces of stained glass and mosaic artwork, dabbling in photography, gardening (minus the weeding), expanding her vast collection and knowledge of antiques, and frequenting flea markets. She cherished relaxing nights at home with her dog, Martin, listening to mystery/crime audiobooks and doing puzzles. A more recent passion of hers was tending to and showing off her many, many succulents.

Barb was a one-of-a-kind mother, sister, friend, and dog-grandma. Her simple pleasures included her extra-large morning cup of coffee (preferably Caribou), watching the birds (especially hummingbirds) on her feeders, reading her weekly People magazine, a good pedicure, and of course, a perfectly cooked steak. One of her greatest joys was sea-shelling on Sanibel Island. Barb was best known for her wry sense of humor and snappy comebacks, her thoughtful and selfless nature, and most importantly, her legendary chocolate cake – she will be remembered and missed for all of this and so, so much more.

Barb was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Ann; and brother, Eric. She is survived by her daughter, Alison Seacord; sister, Kay (Matt Petersen) Touchette; brother, Neil (Gretchen) Touchette; nephews, Beau (Julia) Bye and Nick Touchette; niece, Grace Touchette; grandnephew, Theo Bye; best friends, Tim & Sarah Arnett and Nancy Pike; beloved Cavachon, Martin; and grand dogs, Moose and Bitsy. Barb’s family and friends would like to give a special thank you to the Unit 4C care team at M Health Fairview University of Minnesota Medical Center - East Bank Hospital for their exceptional care and compassion. A celebration of Barb’s life will be held at a later date.
