Barbara "Joanne" Monge

Barbara “Joanne” Monge, passed away peacefully at home in Edina on December 28, 2021 at age 84. She had been cared for by her family, her doctors and Hospice nurses. She was born on October 9, 1937 to parents Corwyn and Dorothy Pixler. She was the oldest of four children, the others being Judy Salmon (Dean), Geraldine Peterson and Gary Pixler.

Joanne was a very talented artist and designer. She graduated from Tracy High School in Tracy, MN in 1956, was an excellent student and member of the National Honor Society. In 1958, she graduated from the University of Minnesota with an ALA Degree with an emphasis in art.

On October 19, 1958, Joanne married Robert Monge. They raised two children – daughter Kristin and son Todd. Joanne contributed her art talents to their schools from elementary through high school. She was always one of the first to volunteer and applied her design sensibilities to every project from the simplest to the most complex.

Joanne worked for a few years as a commercial artist for two major companies. She also served her church, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, with her artistic talents for many years. She designed many program covers, posters and decorations for special events and created an iconic architectural rendering in ink of the Church facade which ordained the cover of the Church’s Newsletter for many years.

Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and brothers-in-law David Peterson and David Monge. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, daughter, Kristin, son-in-law Scott Seager and their children, Annika and Cole and by son, Todd, daughter-in-law Anne and their children, Sydney and Owen. She is also survived by her siblings and their families and by many nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the Park Nicollet Hospice team who comforted her in her final days. We will all miss her, especially the love she gave us, but we are happy that she is now without pain and suffering.

Her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren. God speed dear Joanne. We know that His angels are watching over you. A family service is being planned.
