Barbara Rose Apostolou

Barbara R. Apostolou, of Elk River, MN, age 62, passed away peacefully at home on December 19 ^th , surrounded by her loving family.  She fought a courageous battle the past few months against cancer. She was born on March 27, 1959 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to the late Emil and Florence (Gintner) Tienor. Barb was the youngest of six children and graduated from Brillion High School in 1977. She then attended Fox Valley Community College where she earned her associates degree. On July 2, 1989 she married George Apostolou, the love of her life, at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis. They have two children and three precious grandchildren.

When it came to job titles, Barb wore many hats; some of which included managing the old Fitger’s in Duluth, computer sales and service at CompuCom for 29 years, and chauffeuring her kids around to countless activities. For the past several years she enjoyed working in the cafeteria at Parker Elementary School. She loved traveling with George and her wonderful friends. Her other passions included gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and she especially enjoyed family time with her grandbabies.

Barb is survived by her husband, George; son, Aris (Paige); daughter, Cassie (Steven Russell) Janke; grandchildren, Jory and Roselyn Apostolou and Oscar Janke. She is further survived by her sister, Pat (John) Walter; brother, Steve (Maddie) Tienor; mother-in-law, Cassandra Apostolou; sisters in law, Ruth Tienor, & Vicki (Tom) Chronakos; brothers-in-law, Dionysius (Lisa) and Kosta Zoitos. Barb was also a godmother to Alex Walter, Tom Madsen, Christofili Chronakos, and Malena Bakritges. She is further survived by aunts, uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, LuAnne (and Charles) Fischer; brother, Robert Tienor; brother, Richard (and Cynthia) Tienor; father-in-law, Aristides Apostolou; sister-in-law, Christina Zoitos; aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Now heaven has gained another angel.

Funeral Service 11 AM, Thursday, December 23, 2021 with 10 AM Visitation at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3450 Irving Ave S., Minneapolis. Visitation also Wednesday, December 22, 5-7 PM with Trisagion service at 6:45 PM at Gearty-Delmore Robbinsdale Chapel, 3888 W. Broadway. Interment at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis. In lieu of Flowers, memorials preferred.
