Arthur O. Holman, age 89, passed away peacefully with his family beside him on February 18th, 2020 at the Little Hospice in Edina.
Born on June 4th, 1930 in Fredonia, North Dakota, he grew up on the family farm and went on to graduate from Kulm High School in 1948. From there he went on to work as a truck driver and fuel tanker with Shaffer Trucking and the local Co-Op, till he entered the Army in 1953 during the Korean war. Art was stationed in Germany, driving munitions and fuel until he was honorably discharged in 1955. He then worked at the local Co-Op till January 1958, when he went to Business School in Fargo for bookkeeping. While in school, he met the dream of his life, DeLores. He was asked by DeLores for marriage, and they were married in Gackle, North Dakota on November 8th, 1959. After graduation, he went to work at Wall Works Auto in Fargo, ND. From there he received a job at SuperValu in Fargo, ND. While there, Art and DeLores had 2 sons, Duane and Mark. Art was transferred to SuperValu in Hopkins, MN. On April 1st, 1962, he and his family moved to Minneapolis. In 1964, they had their daughter, Linda. He worked at Super Value until 1972, then worked at NorthStar concrete in Apple Valley before beginning to work at USPS from 1978 to 1991. Art enjoyed many activities with his family- Minnesota Twins Games, Minnesota North Star games, and fishing every Saturday morning. He was also very handy and could and would fix any cars, plumbing, electrical, or concrete that were in need of repair.
Art is preceded in death by his parents, Adeline and Olaf Holman; brothers, Gene and Jim; sisters-in-law, Ethel, Dolores, and Dorothy Holman; brother and sister-in-law Harry and Luella Meyer; and niece Cynthia Willey.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, DeLores; sons, Duane (Angie) and Mark Holman; daughter Linda Foster; grandchildren, Katherine (Brian) Lemke, Kara Foster (Chris Fischbeck), Dustin (MacKenzie) Holman, Katie and Holly Holman; 2 step-grandchildren, Ronelle Moreau, and Kyle (Emily) Anderson; 6 great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Emmitt, Everett, Lincoln, Ruby and Marley; brother Kenneth; and many other family and friends.
Art will be interred at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, 7601 34th Ave S, Minneapolis 55450, on Friday February 28th at 1:15 PM. A celebration of Art's life will be held at the Hopkins VFW, 100 Shady Oak Rd, Hopkins 55343 on Saturday, February 29th from 11:00 AM - 3:00 PM, with a VFW Color Guard Ceremony at 12:00 PM. No flowers please; memorials are preferred to the Little Hospice, 7019 Lynmar Lane, Edina MN, 55435.
