Arlene L. (Franzen) Stansfield passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on August 11, 2016.  Born on April 20, 1926 to Adolph and Dorothy Franzen, she was raised in Cloquet, MN.  Arlene was the loving wife of 57 years to Russell Stansfield.  Mother to Lory Taylor (Jim Constantineau) and Patti Steinhoff (Mitch). Grandmother to Alicia and Hallie Taylor, Megan and Christopher Steinhoff.   Sister to Phyllis Battelle.

Arlene graduated from Cloquet High School.  She attended St. Olaf College for one year then transferred to the University of Minnesota where she graduated in 1948 with a B.S. in Textiles and Clothing in Business.  She was a U of M Presidents Club Charter Member and made many outstanding contributions toward the advancement of her professions and the University while cultivating two distinguished careers, including 23 years as a home economist and 19 years as a consumer affairs professional. Her roles included Vice President of Consumer Affairs for Land O'Lakes Inc., national spokesperson for Swift Co., founding member of the National Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals in Business (1973), and founding member of the Minnesota National 4-H Foundation (1989). She also worked with NASA developing food for astronauts, and has provided outstanding leadership on numerous college and University advisory committees. Arlene is recipient of many national awards, including National Home Economist in Business of the Year (1986) and the University of Minnesota Regents Outstanding Achievement Award (1987). In 2000, Arlene was honored by the U of M at the Centennial Celebration as a Centennial 100 honoree.

She dearly loved traveling the world with her life companion Russ, entertaining family and friends, volunteering at Bibles for Missions Thrift Store and doing her Christmas Crafts.

Arlene and her late husband Russ were beloved friends of the University.  Memorials can be made to the Russell V. and Arlene L. Stansfield Memorial Scholarship, University of MN Foundation, P.O. Box 860266, Mpls, MN 55486.
Special thanks to the staff at The Glenn - Minnetonka for their loving care for the past 3 years, and to the medical team at North Memorial Hospital Hospice.

Visitation also 1 hour prior to service at church. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
