Andrew Michael Merck

Andrew Michael Merck was born in Hutchinson, MN on June 5, 1999 to Mike and Kristi Merck. He died March 11, 2022 at the age of 22 in Ham Lake, MN. He was so very loved by his parents and siblings; John (Amy) Merck, Joe (Greta) Merck, Anna (Jake) Barthold, Liz (Kohl) Weir, Becca Merck (Andrew Schindler, fiance), Abby (David) Vouk, Maria Merck, Clare Merck and Paul Merck. He is also survived by his eleven nieces and two nephews, his Grandmother Janice Merck, many aunts and uncles and cousins. Andrew was preceded in death by his Uncle Scott Torborg, Grandparents Mike and Mary Ann Lewandowski and, most recently, by his Grandfather Lawrence Merck.

Andrew had a kind and generous heart. He loved his family and friends, and anyone he met was a potential new friend. Andrew was a natural athlete, loved adventures, nature, photography, videography, and he had a special passion for creating music. He had several part time jobs in his short life but the one he was most proud of was working as an aid in a senior care home in Duluth. He would often share the impact it had on him. In his lifetime, Andrew accompanied his family on medical mission trips to Guatemala where he saw great beauty in the place and in the people. This moved him and he longed to learn Spanish and return again to help more if he could. This connection he had with those in need explains our family's decision to direct memorials to the charitable organization LEAST which stands for Loving the Elderly And Satiating Jesus' Thirst (www.leastmission.org). Donations in Andrew's name will support the remodeling of the chapel in Casa Feliz, where stained glass windows will be designed to reflect St. Francis of Assisi, Andrew's Confirmation saint. In his last few years, Andrew endured much suffering living with schizophrenia which he bore with great courage. In his illness, he taught us unconditional love by his patient presence. He brought smiles and laughter in a way that only he could. No words can describe our loss. We place all our trust and hope in God’s love and mercy.
