Al was born Feb. 26, 1918 in Minneapolis, and he passed away peacefully on July 17, 2016.

Doris Carol Gross Halloran, children Peggy (Otto) Schmid, Kathy (Farhad) Rassouli, Denny (Sue) Halloran, Maureen McFarland, daughter-in-law Becky Halloran, stepchildren Edward (Lois) Gross, Maureen (Terry) deBruyn, 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 5 great- great grandchildren.
Al was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Leonora Halloran, his first wife of 41 years, Mary Gertrude Griffin Halloran, his son Patrick Alden Halloran, and his sister Hazel Marie Halloran.
Al graduated from North High in Minneapolis in 1936 and from the University of Minnesota in 1940 with a degree in psychology. In 1944, he was drafted into the Navy, where he served until 1945 as a Specialist. In 1949, he completed his Master Degree in Psychiatric Social Work on the GI Bill. He was then hired by the Veterans Administration, serving with the VA hospital in Minneapolis for 34 years, and eventually becoming Chief of the Psychiatric Social Services. Simultaneously, he worked at Anoka State Hospital part time as a therapist of Psychiatry and Chemical Dependency for 23 years. He was also a Clinical Associate Professor at the U of MN. When the Korean War broke out, Al was commissioned into the Army Reserve, where he eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, retiring from the military in 1978.
Al received numerous professional awards from the Governor, the American Legion, and AA Groups during his long career in Social Work. He also authored many articles on Prisoners of War, co-authored a book on schizophrenia, and was a speaker at many professional conferences on Veterans' problems. Once he retired, he loved to travel, both nationally and internationally. He gave generously of his time to civic and professional organizations and was an officer in many.
Al was a joiner and friend of everyone. Proud of his Irish heritage and especially of his family, he loved parties, music, dancing, travel, cars, jokes, golf, and the military. He tried to accomplish something practical every day. His goal each day was to include learning, laughing, and loving.
Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
