Albert "Al" J. Lenss

Born December 5, 1931 in De Pere, Wisconsin.

Preceded in death by wife, Mitzie; son-in-law, Dutch Huebschman; parents, John and Nellie; sisters, Ceil, Mary and Rosella; brothers, Harold, Joe and Dick.

Survived by children, Karen Huebschman, Mark (Sheila), Dave (Anne), Jim, Marty (Shona); grandchildren, Hallie (Sam Saffrin), Rachael, Christian, Megan, Connor and great-granddaughter, Olivia; sisters, Eunice Verber and Judy (Dennis) McGinley both of Green Bay.

His many nieces and nephews referred to him as their “favorite Uncle”, which may have been because he always found time to take them to the nearest Dairy Queen for a treat.

Al was the 8th of 10 children born to John and Nellie Lenss.  A 1950 graduate of St. Norbert’s High School where he excelled in athletics, basketball being his favorite sport.  After high school Uncle Sam called and he was drafted into the Army.  Following a tour of duty in the Korean War, Al married the love of his life, Marilyn “Mitzie” Dernbach in 1954.

While working for Red Owl Stores, Al was transferred from Green Bay to Minneapolis, which meant moving his young family to the big city.  Al and his family settled in St. Louis Park in 1960 which was home for more than 50 years.  After a long career with Red Owl Stores, Al went to work for Fairway Foods before retiring in 1996.

A lifelong Packer fan, Al bled Green and Gold.  As a youngster Al and his buddies hitch hiked to the stadium to sneak in and watch their beloved team.  Moving to Minnesota only strengthened his love for the Packers.  When Green Bay played the Vikings at the old Met Stadium, Al would be there on the sidelines thanks to his friendship with Packer Athletic Trainer, Carl “Bud” Jorgenson.  A playoff win on Sunday brought a smile to his face!

Al loved making things and was a talented wood worker and builder.  From marble rollers and rocking horses to decks, garages and entire homes, Al could do it all. Examples of Al’s efforts can be found from Hayward, Wisconsin to Pensacola, Florida.
