Alan Schmitt

Schmitt, Alan Thomas “Al”, 69,  born in Milbank, SD and lifelong resident of Osseo, MN, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2021, with his brother Dave at his side. He is preceded in death by his parents Bruce Schmitt, Diane Carlson (Schmitt), and stepfather Willard Carlson. He is survived by countless family members – related or not – with whom he would, without fail, spend every holiday and special occasion, including siblings Terri Schmitt, Kitty (Joe) Atkins, Mike Schmitt (Sonja Perpich), Barb (John) Waldoch, Peggy (John) Chalich, Dave (Brenda) Schmitt and Mary Kay Hughes; step-siblings Jean (Rollin) Goldsberry, Marleen (Neil) Misek, Ron (Diana) Carlson, Kelly Carlson and Myron Carlson; 22 nieces and nephews; 14 grand-nieces and nephews; godchildren; and Uncle Jack (Mary) Weber. Al, a proud US Army veteran and US Postal Service lifer, will be remembered for laughs around the fire at Fish Lake and Twilight Acres, the annual fall hunting trips, his ace on 16 at Hayden Hills, his renowned post office parties (always followed by a family party the following weekend) and his up-to-the-minute political and sports commentary. Most of all, he will be remembered for his generous spirit and warm smile.  We’ll think of you, Al, every time we watch Survivor or a western movie, eat a deviled egg, or play a game of 500.

A private burial will be held at Fort Snelling. A celebration of Al’s life, and his rich contribution to so many lives, will be held in the spring of 2022.
