Robert Siegel

Siegel, Robert "Bob" or "Ganka" of Chanhassen, MN passed away July 18, 2022. He is survived by his daughters: Martha Noll (Greg) and Alexis Siegel-Carlson (John); beloved grandchildren: Zachary Noll, Ava Noll, Owen Siegel, and Brady Carlson; sister Dolly Purvis (Don) and brother Richard Siegel (Darlyne), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife, Judy Siegel (Hagen); parents, Willis and Clara (Brodahl) Siegel; siblings: brother, Willis Siegel Jr., twin sisters, Jeannie Janes and Joannie Blair. Born October 18, 1940 in Devils Lake, ND, Bob proudly graduated from the University of North Dakota (UND) with a degree in Journalism. He was in U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He came back to Minnesota and worked at local newspapers, The Owatonna People's Press and Hopkins Sun-Sailor Newspaper. Bob held success at the corporate level as a Marketing/Communications Director, but he was a newspaper man at heart. He retired from Southwest Newspapers as Editor of the Chaska Herald and Chanhassen Villager. Bob was awarded "Life Master" American Contract Bridge League, enjoyed the NYTimes Crossword, had a beautiful singing voice and was a great dancer. He was passionate about politics. He had a "play 2 win" zest for life. He loved and missed going to Mystic Lake with his wife, Judy and best friend, Niners (Sandra Craig). He had a hobby of collecting coins that he shared with his grandkids. He loved animals. The granddogs are going to miss the treats he "snuck" to them under the table. He made the best homemade split pea and turkey dumpling soups; always making his own recipe. He was a master with left-overs and spices. Bob and Judy were known for entertaining friends and family with their elegant gourmet dinner parties and live out loud pool parties. Bob has been a member of the Chanhassen Lion's Club and Chanhassen American Legion, and a lifelong blood donor. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Red Cross, https://www.redcross.org or the Dementia Society of America, https://www.dementiasociety.org.
Private burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a date to be determined.
